Setting Intentions for a Successful 2020

In the New Year, many people like to set goals for what they want to achieve often focusing on things like fitness, weight loss, career advancement and financial growth.

I personally like to set intentions for what I truly desire in all areas of my life including mental, emotional and spiritual growth. Deepak Chopra writes in his book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success about the power of intention behind what one desires.

He gives us five steps to harness the power of intention to fulfil your dreams and desires.

  1. Centre yourself in the silent space between thoughts - in the essential state of BEING.

  2. Release your intentions and desires with the expectation that they will bloom when the season is right.

  3. Keep your desires to yourself; do not share them with anyone else unless they are closely bonded with you.

  4. Relinquish your attachment to the outcome.

  5. Let the universe handle the details.

I will share with you what I feel are all the important aspects of my life in which I would like to create more balance and fulfilment. I encourage you to try the same exercise and feel free to share your feelings with me about intentions and desires for a fulfilled and joyful year ahead.

Family

What do you desire the most to feel connected and happy within your family life. It could be only immediate family or perhaps you would also like to strengthen your connection to more distant relatives too.

Intimate Relationships

What do you most desire in your relationship with your partner or perhaps you are wanting to find someone special in your life? How can you open up and ask or find what you are looking for?

Spiritual Growth

We all come from many different backgrounds and beliefs in this area of our lives however I feel we are all ultimately looking for the same sense of meaning and connection to our own true self.  Perhaps you would like to begin meditating to develop self-awareness or maybe you would like to join a spiritual group to find deeper meaning in your life.

Health and fitness

Are you feeling fit and healthy or do you need to look after yourself a bit more carefully. After the festive season many people find themselves needing to get back on track with their exercise and get back to eating a healthy diet.

Hobbies

Do you make time to do things that you love?  I love reading, painting and listening to music to relax.

Study/Work

What do you desire and how can you make this area of your life more manageable and fulfilling. We don’t always enjoy the work or studying that we are required to do to achieve what we desire. Try and think of ways to make the journey toward what you really desire more manageable and enjoyable.

Financial

What is your intention and desire in this area of your life? Perhaps you need to feel more financial security or maybe you need to become financially independent.

Set Your Own Intentions for 2020

There should be no holding back when you set your intentions and desires for each aspect you put on your list. Take a moment before you begin writing to visualise what you desire and hold that picture in your heart.

Write down the steps you can take short term, medium term and long term in each area to achieve what you desire. This will be something you can keep referring back to in order to keep your attention focused on what you are doing in the moment to achieve your hearts’ desire.

Remember to keep your attention on your intended outcome without attachment, trusting that your attention and actions in the present are what will create your desired future.
